The Estela Wilderness Education Fund at the Main Street Community Foundation was established on March 9th, 2012. This designated fund became fully funded as of January 2015. The fund will make an annual donation to the Environmental Learning Centers of Connecticut (Barnes Nature Center) for the purpose of sending youth to camp programs and trail maintenance. The youth of America hold the future of outdoors recreation and education in their hands. This fund will ensure the knowledge of the outdoors will be passed onto the next generation. Through this fund, Kevin is able to share what he learned to love as a child with countless kids in the years to come.

Kevin Estela and Scott Heth

Environmental Learning Center of Connecticut Trustee, Kevin Estela with Environmental Learning Center of Connecticut Director, Scott Heth at the Main Street Community Foundation the day the initial fundraising goal was met.

Kevin Estela first learned about hiking and the outdoors at the Barnes Nature Center at a young age. This is where his father first took him on the trails and around the pond and ever since, Kevin has turned his childhood interest into a lifelong passion. With some consideration, Kevin determined a designated fund of this type would insure knowledge would continue spreading.
